Domino Effect
Kingston Wharves will be looking for a historic three consecutive Division One title when they take on arch-rivals Campari in the grand finale of the 2016 National Association of Domino Bodies (NADB) Kingston & St Andrew Region/Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum Business House League today.
It will be a repeat of last year’s final after Kingston Wharves blanked Campari 107-86 to register back-to-back titles. Both teams are unbeaten in the league coming into the knockout stages, but Kingston Wharves looked the more impressive of the two throughout the competition and thus were given the edge to create another historic feat.
They had won the Champion Shield at the start of the tournament and also copped the Knockout Championship and now will aim to end the competition on a high.
The pair of Rohan “Guy Fox” Dixon and Fred “Teddy” Thomas, who were named Most Valuable Players for Division One for the past seasons, have been the key in the success of Kingston Wharves, and they will be hoping that to be firing on all cylinders today.
On the other side, Campari seem to lose their composure whenever under pressure as it was evidenced on numerous occasions throughout the league. They however managed to score a 116-115 win over Seprod in round four of the group stages when challenged by their opponents in the final five minutes of the match. They came again under pressure in round seven, but were able to pull off a 120-119 win over JUTC. But their luck ran out when they were beaten by Pepsi-Cola Jamaica in the first round in the Knockout championship.
If they are to challenge Kingston Wharves, Campari need to produce more than their best to have a chance of lifting the title.
Wray & Nephew Limited will take on National Commercial Bank in the third-place play-off.
In the lower division, Urban Development Corporation (UDC) should get the better of Digicel in the final.
UDC have beaten Digicel on two occasions this season and will be confident that they can make it three from three. UDC got the better of their opponents 117-91 in round four of the group stages before they recorded a 126-100 win in round eight to prove their dominance.
However, Digicel have shown from time to time that they are a force to reckoned with and produced the goods when it matters most. A very exciting final is in store
but UDC is given the edge based on statistics. Meanwhile, Jamaica Observer and Ministry of Finance will do battle in the third-place play-off. The winner of Division One will receive $30,000, while the runners-up will pocket $20,000. In Division Two, the winner will walk away with $25,000 and the losers will get $15,000.The grand finale and third-place play-off in both divisions will take place at UDC Festival Park starting at 6:30 pm.
