Kemica Young Leads with Purpose at Kingston Wharves
Her recent appointment represents an important milestone for Kingston Wharves and for women working in Jamaica’s logistics and maritime sectors. It reflects both her professional growth and the organisation’s commitment to recognising talent and creating opportunities for leadership across its operations.
Young’s journey with Kingston Wharves began in 2015 when she joined the company as a seasonal worker with a strong desire to learn and build a career in the industry. Over time, she advanced through several roles, including team lead and supervisor, gaining valuable experience in warehouse operations, customer coordination, and team management. Today she leads one of the most critical areas of the company’s operations, ensuring that cargo moves efficiently through the warehouse and that customers receive timely service.
Collaboration
Collaboration is at the centre of Young’s leadership approach. Warehouse operations depend on strong coordination between multiple teams and partners. She works closely with colleagues across the organisation as well as shipping agents and regulatory authorities to ensure that processes remain efficient and focused on client needs. Through open communication and teamwork, the warehouse team remains aligned and focused on meeting operational targets.
Young is also passionate about developing the people around her. She encourages cross-training and mentorship within the warehouse team so employees can expand their skills and take on new responsibilities. By investing in people and supporting their professional growth, she helps strengthen the team and contributes to the continued success of Kingston Wharves.
Family, Service and Leadership
Outside of work, Young values time with family and opportunities for personal growth. She enjoys exploring new recipes and strengthening her culinary skills, a hobby that allows her to unwind after busy days in warehouse operations. She also enjoys painting with her daughter and appreciates the creative moments they share together. In addition, she participates in volunteer activities within her community, reflecting a desire to give back and support others.
For Kemica Young, leadership is about more than managing operations. It is about building strong teams, supporting continuous improvement, and contributing to the success of Kingston Wharves while inspiring the next generation of professionals in the industry.
